Currently, he holds the position of Senior Scientist. His research areas are: a) the comparative study of unwarranted variations in health systems institutional performance (i.e. analysis of equity, utilization, quality and safety, and effectiveness and efficiency); b) the study of the effectiveness of complex real-life health interventions, in particular those delivered to chronic and frail populations; and c) methods and technologies for the reuse of massive real-world data, with an interest in federated research.

    Representative research projects:

    • AtlasVPM interested in the systematic and comprehensive evaluation of the performance of the Spanish national health system;
    • CONCEPT, a project studying the association between care trajectories and health outcomes in four cohorts of patients: acute ischaemic stroke, type II diabetes, congestive heart failure and female breast cancer survivors;
    • ICCONIC, a global initiative that is contributing to the comparative analysis of care pathways in high-need high-cost patients;
    • In PHIRI and By-COVID, the group has developed the federated infrastructure that has allowed the assessment of indirect effects of the COVID19 pandemic, and the evaluation of the real-life effectiveness of the vaccines, respectively.
